Art Notes

Who doesn’t love baseball on a long summer day eating hot dogs and “Cracker Jacks” while cheering for the home team? It has been a part of my life since I played Little League in Placerville, California, the small mountain village where I grew up.

In “A Mile in His Shoes”, I try and capture the personal nostalgia of those childhood memories and to give those who view it an opportunity to reminisce about their own hometown experience. Here you see a professional minor league team with an enthused, albeit small, fan base in the middle of a game on a late season day. I’ve captured the moment as the pitcher winds-up to throw while his coaches look on in anticipation. I can smell the fresh cut grass, hear the crack of the bat, and imagine in my mind’s eye, the ball launching into the evening sky being caught in the outfield as the crowd jumps to their feet in celebration of the plays outcome.

This painting is a tribute to the movie also titled, “A Mile in His Shoes”. It is an uplifting tale of both personal and team triumph. I know it will become a family favorite. Whether you enjoy my painting, the movie or both, I think the one thing that we can all agree on; it’s time to “Play Ball!”
